EAL (English as an Additional Language) means that English is not your first language. EAL pupils in primary and secondary school will receive additional English language support.
Schools will work closely with both children and their families to ensure that they receive all the necessary advice and support.
EAL support is provided by your school and will always be free.
More information on support for families for whom English is an additional language is provided by Education Scotland.
FAQs:
Is EAL (English as an Additional Language) considered a SEN (Special Educational Needs)?
Speaking English as an Additional Language refers solely to language and is not considered a Special Educational Need, although it is possible that an EAL pupil also has special educational needs. More information on children with Special Education Needs can be found here.
