Social Cohesion

Local Authorities have a duty to foster good relations and promote social cohesion within their communities. Of particular importance is the public sector equality duty, which “requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between different people when carrying out their activities.”

In the context of the Hong Kong BN(O) visa, it is particularly important to focus on preventing exclusion, promoting social cohesion and tolerance, and ensuring community safety. Capacity building and integration services, such as ESOL, will enable Hongkongers to fully participate in society and pursue employment opportunities that can positively contribute to Scotland’s economy.
